Yesterday at church I had an interesting thought. During the lesson in Elders Quorum (that’s basically a class of just the men 18 and older for those who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints), the teacher had us list our top five things that mean the most to us...our top five priorities in life. As I ponder what my top five priorities are in life I am surprised to see how often I put them aside. After some thought, I feel that my top priorities are:
Well...duh! That should be a no-brainer. But it hit me like a ton of bricks. Especially right now in my life when there has never been a time when my tomorrow is so uncertain. I don’t know what’s going to happen. And that fact has caused a lot of anxiety over the last few days as I’ve been trying to find a new career. Life is full of uncertainty. Life is full of challenges. But the real measure of success--I feel--is not what’s in the bank account (although it does rank up there with breathing), but where your focus on your priorities are. So for this week, what are your priorities? How much time, focus, and attention do you give those priorities? If you find yourself wanting in any of them, take a moment to refocus and recenter, then push on with confidence that everything will fall neatly into place. God takes care of us when we take care of the priorities. Smile! Life is Good! Michael Woolley Thankful Thursday…
I think I might be able to understand why someone would be able to hold grudges against the world today. Life is hard...the world is tough. There's no denying it. It's the way it's always been. There is nothing ever written that says live a certain way and you'll have an easy life. I will admit completely that the hardships my family and I are experiencing right now are 100% our choice. We had a great job, a fantastic support from family and friends, and a beautiful son who is nothing but smiles and energy everyday. But we left the job behind to pursue something else... something more. What that means, I don't entirely know. But we've had a crazy adventure these last few months. Being unemployed has opened my eyes to what truly matters, and what I'm truly grateful for in life. So, with Thankful Thursday I'd like to say...I am thankful for my wife who supports me in all of my crazy ideas. I am thankful for my son who fills my heart with joy. I am thankful for my family who have been nothing but a strength to me these last few months. I am grateful for the friends I made at Maeser...both co-workers and students. I will truly miss you all and hope to stay in touch. I am grateful for my talents and abilities. This adventure has certainly opened.my eyes to what I am truly capable of. Lastly, I am grateful for life. The world is hard, tough, and mean. But life, love, beauty, imagination, and creativity truly make living a wonderful experience. What are you grateful for? Alright...here we go.
This is my first official blog post in this new chapter in my life. It's crazy to think about everything that's been going on for the last several months. Teaching English, SOAR, Communications, and Socratic Seminar at Karl G. Maeser Preparatory Academy has undoubtedly been a dream come true. I'm just shocked that the dream ended so abruptly. I do need to make one thing very...VERY clear about me ending my career at Maeser; it was all entirely my choice. They truly have been nothing but a blessing to me and my family. So it was quite surprising when we felt the direction to leave. It was even more surprising to leave so soon. But I cannot even begin to express the feelings that I'm currently going through right now. Feelings of joy, excitement, and most of all, complete and total peace. I have no idea what's in store for me and my family. I have things lined up. But my tomorrows have never been so uncertain as they are right now. And I'm ecstatic about it. So join me in this adventure. I'll be blogging (and vlogging) about this new and exciting chapter in my life. I'll do my best to get something posted every day, but please be patient with me if I don't get something posted every once and a while. There are several things that I am highly interested in and I'll write about those regularly. I'll most likely be keeping my posts regulated by themes so if there are topics that don't interest you, you'll know which days to skip. I'm also a very religious man. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My beliefs are a big part of who I am and how I see the world. If you do not share my beliefs I'd ask that you be just as open and respectful with me as I will try to be with you. One of the greatest things that I've learned during my time at Maeser was how much we can truly learn from each other if we start with respecting each other and having an open dialogue about those topics. I'll write more about this later but for now, don't be surprised if my religious beliefs make it into my writing. Back to themes of my blog/vlog, they will be as follows: Motivation Monday Tidbit Tuesday Workout Wednesday Thankful Thursday Face-time Friday Story-time Saturday I think this first week will be explaining what all of these are. So make sure to come back every day to see what each day will be all about and what part of Michael Woolley you'd like to get to know. Wishing you the best Michael Woolley - Master Spartacus |
